Changing your eating habits doesn’t have to be dramatic. Plenty of little tips and tricks make it easy to revamp your eating habits in only one day, and therefore put you on the path to weight loss. Use the following tips to help yourself change your eating habits quickly!

Drink Water First Thing

Start your day by drinking a glass of water. It not only wakes up your brain, it gives your metabolism the jump-start it needs.

“It can give you a sense of revival by clearing your head and help get your bowels moving regularly,” says Libby Mills, MS, RDN, LDN, spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Don’t Deprive Yourself

Avoid severely decreasing your caloric intake, as eating too little causes the body to hold onto fat reserves among other unpleasant effects. Make healthy food choices the majority of the time instead.

Snack “Mindfully”

Remain mindful of your snack choices. Think a handful of nuts instead of a candy bar. Nuts provide both fiber and protein to keep you full until dinnertime.

Always Eat Breakfast

“My clients who eat breakfast tend to have better control throughout the rest of the day than those who don’t,” says Mills.

Opt for foods that contain the aforementioned fiber and protein. Think veggie omelettes, lowfat yogurt with fortified cereal, and whole grain toast with avocado or peanut butter.

Bring Your Lunch

Bring your lunch to work with you instead of eating out. You’ll save money in addition to helping yourself lose weight. Try to make a week’s worth of healthy lunches on Sunday so you don’t end up buying something. Segmented plasticware is a good idea, as you can fill it with fruit, whole wheat crackers, veggies, hummus, etc.
